Broadway Global shares a visit to Angelica Torres' Broadway Musical Theatre production of "Hairspray" that was an earth shaking educational experience. "You Can't Stop the Beat" of this talented Artistic Director, Choreographer, Light and Sound arts leader in South Florida who has found the heart and soul of the arts family community. "Hairspray" book by Mark O'Donnell, Music by Marc Shaiman, Lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman. Directed and Choreographed by Angelica Torres, Musical Direction by Javier Castellanos who both captured the heart and soul of this smash Broadway musical.
You have seen Broadway Global review endless Broadway shows but the truth is not every family can afford Broadway prices, so when you hear of a national community theatre whose production values match or surpass some professional theatres, we must give them credit, so the South Florida community will support their efforts. Without programs like Broadway Musical Theatre, Directors/Choreographers like Angelica Torres how can our society be introduced to arts? The familes and children in this production of "Hairspray" will never forget this on stage theatrical experience, no matter where their future or present jobs take them.
Broadway Musical Theatre was founded in 2004 by Angelica Torres on the premise that South Florida possesses an untapped resource of extremely talented individuals whose artistic aspirations were only limited by the lack of opportunities to perform on stage. Coming to Miami in 2004 from New York, it became very obvious there was a dearth of opportunities to perform on a professional quality platform for the considerable talents that existed in South Florida. Even the more well known and funded regional theaters seemed more inclined to bring in entire casts for productions from out of state for their shows. With that in mind Angelica Torres decided that there was opportunity to do both, tap into the significant talents of South Florida’s up and coming performers and to provide high quality musical theater entertainment to an under served market.
